5 Simple Tips to Start 2023

If you are just settling into your personal design aesthetic or stuck in a rut with your current design style, try using these tips to take the leap into investing in your joy!

Vintage and antique furniture are forever pieces. They are typically made of natural materials that can withstand the test of time. These pieces can be reinvented by changing knobs, re-staining, etc., and they provide a timeless look that can be complemented with the incorporation of trendy pieces.

Start collecting art you love as soon as you are able. I am constantly on the search for up-and-coming artists. By doing so, you will be surprised by the undiscovered talent you find out there, and commissioned pieces do not always cost a fortune.

Always keep a tape measure on hand (stop by our shop for a complimentary one that will easily fit in a purse or pocket). Space planning and scaling are key. Everything has to balance and create a comfortable flow, from lighting and accessories to furniture and rugs. When designing, the top mistake I see is a sofa too large for the living room. There is a way to create enough seating for family and guests while staying true to the space and proper scale.

NUmber Four

If you are painting your house one color throughout, buy a sample can and paint it in several areas of your home. Paint patches where the light hits differently. Paint near windows, in dark areas and in rooms without windows. You are painting anyway, so use the entire can and live with it for a few days.

NUmber Five

Invest. This may sound blunt, but quit buying cheaply made stuff. If you don’t regret it now, you will in six months to a year. Your home should be your haven. A place where you’re surrounded by feelings of love, joy and tranquility. Poorly made pieces won’t give you those feelings.

P.S.

I know I said five tips, but here's a bonus fact: a Tide stick works great for getting stains out of velvet.
